Underwater Casinos? A Win-Win Situation
On July 14th, the Pennsylvania state officials proposed an interesting solution to the casino re-sitting debate. The casino's (SugarHouse and Foxwoods) want to be on the water front, but the community doesn't want to see them, the state officials proposal; Build the casinos underwater in the Delaware River. The Casino's still get to be on or rather in the waterfront and the community will not see them. Representative Dwight Evans is quoted as saying to reporters; "It seems to me that putting the casinos underwater would satisfy all parties. Foxwoods and SugarHouse would get to stay on the waterfront and Philadelphia wouldn't have to look at them."

While Mayor Michael Nutter as well as state representatives are very enthusiastic about the idea, casino reps have their own questions and concerns regarding the underwater building. While they are still mulling over the proposal, there are a few main concerns they need answers to such as; How would one build a casino underwater? Will there be danger of passing ships colliding with the casinos? Would the guests need to know how to swim or have scuba certifications to enter the casinos? Foxwoods spokeswoman Regina Dancey said: "It's a unique idea, but there are some obvious logistical problems that would need to be addressed...We're going to take a long hard look at this."

Rep. Dwight Evans is urging the casino to accept the offer as it is to be believed a win-win situation for all parties involved. Evans is quoted as saying "They (The Casinos) need to come to the understanding that this proposal would benefit everybody. I think it'd be great is they say 'yes' and, excuse the pun, dive right in."

While I agree that this is definitely a unique proposal for these two casinos and could be seen as a winning situation for all, there are many kinks in the plan that need to be worked out. If they found this to be a safe way to build and safe for the guests and employees I believe it could be the new flavor in waterfront casinos.

Evans urged them to accept the offer. "[The casinos] need to come to the understanding that this proposal would benefit everybody. I think it'd be great if they say 'yes' and, excuse the pun, dive right in."
