Tribes Get Together for Casino License
Tribes continue to push for more casinos as the Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe pursues efforts to get into the gambling business. Their newest accomplishment becoming partners with a New York Tribe gained new credibility for the tribe.Another tribe, the Seneca Nation of Indians built casinos in Niagra falls and Salamanca, which are both in New York and is quickly spreading out more casinos in Buffalo.
The leaders of these two tribes decided not to be present at a news conference yesterday in Boston. They have not disclosed any information on the deal between the tribes.
The chairman of the Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe will be competing for a regional license. They will bid under the proposal Governor Deval Patrick stated last month to bring about casinos in the state of Massachusetts.
The tribe will also be looking at the western region of the state for a casino license. But they are also prepared to compete with the only federal recognized tribe of the Mashpee Wamanoag. The Mashpee Wamanoag has a casino license in the southern part of the state of Massachusetts.
Since 2002, developments of three large casinos in New York were built by the Seneca tribe. There are 7,600 members of the Seneca tribe which has produced $1.2 Billion dollars from their casinos and other businesses.
The competition between these tribes to establish casinos in the state of Massachusetts rages on as well as the competition to be federally recognized.
