Nevada Casinos Report Drop in Gamblers Winnings
The Nevada State Gaming Control Board reported on Friday that Nevada casinos had seen a drop of almost fifteen percent in winnings from gamblers for the month of November. This was the eleventh straight month of declines for the Nevada casinos. In November 2007 Nevada casinos had a monthly gambling total of more than $982 million and this past November the total was down to $836.8 million. A large revenue source for Nevada is taxes from the casino wins and that amount was down twenty seven percent from the previous year.
The report done by the State Gaming Control Board showed that almost every area of casino gaming was down in the state. Slots, poker, table games such as blackjack and craps as well as roulette showed a significant decrease in winnings.
Frank Streshley a Control Board analyst commented: "It's the economy, the big decline in the stock market and people tightening up on their spending. The state is having a difficult time with (tourist) visitation and the amount of money being spent by those who do come."
