Mississippi to Go Ahead With Casino Plans
The economy may be going downhill causing people to spend less and less money, but one city in Mississippi is still going ahead with plans to build a casino. City officials in Greenville, Mississippi have stated they will be moving forward with plans to build a riverfront casino as well as a 34,000 square foot convention center. Many casinos in Las Vegas and other areas have been providing customers with freebies just to get players into their casinos since people have not been spending as much money as they had before. Customers are saving their money for gas, rising food cost or just plain fear. If people do not come to casinos to gamble their money then the casino looses. The City Council in Greenville must not believe they will have a problem when this casino is finished or possibly the economic woes of the country will be fixed by then.
The Council reaffirmed their commitment to the Delta Blues Casino and Convention Center this past Tuesday and also agreed to take on $4 million of the debt from the developer when the project is finished.
The convention center will house concerts, business meeting and feature a blues museum. After the construction is complete, the developer will manage and own the convention center for the first two years. After that the Council will take over and assume the $4 million in debt.
Once the development is begun, it will be interesting to see if the project will stay afloat or if the economy problems will cause delays in the building of the project.
