MA Governor's Casino Plans Coming Under Fire
By: TJ “AceHigh Pino” GillMassachusetts’ Governor Deval Patrick has caught a lot of heat as of late for his casino proposal he introduced in late September of this year. The plan calls for new resort casinos to be built in metropolitan Boston, western Massachusetts, and southeastern Massachusetts.
Opponents of the proposal have been coming out in hoards recently, with church and political groups banding together to form their own anti-gambling campaign. Even voters in the state have sponsored discussion forums and rallies in attempts to persuade lawmakers from passing the bill into law.
The anti-gambling groups claim themselves to be “underdogs fighting wealthy and politically connected casino developers,” says The Boston Globe.
Assuming the bill goes into effect, there’s still no word on when groundbreaking would begin. It’s not even known the Governor’s true stance on the proposal since his announcement several months ago.
He’s held no major rallies or garnered any more public attention on the matter, and it’s not even a certainty that he’ll be attending a hearing on the matter later this month.
Critics wonder if he’s as serious about the bill as he was when he first introduced it, and if so, why he has made little to no headway on making the proposal one of his top priorities.
