Coconut Creek Seminole Casino hosting special Miner BenefitOne of the biggest stories of 2010 was the Chilean Miners. Trapped in a mine shaft for sixty nine days, thirty three Chilean miners were able to survive and be rescued. This weekend the miners will be honored at a special charity fundraiser benefit for American Miners at the Coconut Creek Seminole Casino in Florida.
Thirteen of the thirty three miners are at the casino to enjoy a little recreational activity. Hitting the blackjack tables at the casinos it is time for the miners to enjoy themselves. The event they are attending is the Tribute to Heroes and Miracles.
The event is a fundraiser that will take place this Saturday and money raised will benefit the United Mine Workers of America as well as the American Cancer Society and the Disable American Veterans. Several people will be honored during the event.
Dario Segovia a miner trapped in the incident commented: “Never in my life did I imagine being able to come to the United States. Everything here is so beautiful. The palm trees. The warm weather. Even how well maintained the streets are…but what I enjoy most is the caring nature of everyone we have encountered here.”
Many of the miners attending the event at the casino were treated to a special trip to Walt Disney World with their families. The families earned an all expense paid trip to enjoy the sights and sounds of the parks.
Everyone at the casino was happy to see the miners. When word got out whom they were, many people just wanted to approach them and tell them how happy they are for them. The miners posed for pictures with people at the blackjack tables and enjoyed the kind words people had to say.
