Asian Bus Riders Watch Gambling Danger Video on Route to Casino
Asian gamblers on their way to the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Connecticut via bus ride will be subject to watching a gambling danger video. The video was created by a coalition of concerned groups who want to provide Asian gamblers with information on the dangers of gambling. Bus riders will see Chinese dragons, rolling dice, dealt cards and men betting while watching the videos. The video is only five minutes long and was made in the hopes that players with gambling problems will learn the signs and symptoms of a problem gambler so they can diagnose themselves or loved ones.
The Mohegan Sun sees that they have a responsibility to help people and that is why they spend money and time to deal with problem gambling yet they also cater to their gambling pleasures. In 2007, the casino opened a special wing of the casino that caters to Asian players. This wing has Pai gow poker, pai gow tiles, sic bo, mini-baccarat tables and also a Chinese restaurant.
This section of the casino is constantly busy and according to the casino around fifty buses a day bring Asians to the casino to play, thus the need for the video. The casino along with a nonprofit group, the state council and the bus line worked together to create the video.
Chien-Chi Huang of the state Council on Compulsive Gambling commented: "Gambling is very accepted in the community (Asian). Unfortunately, most don't realize that if you don't learn to do it safely or responsibly, it will cause many devastating impacts, not only financially, but also to your health. Relationships with your family will suffer."
